New Wing
Just before the Christmas rush of 1999 we managed to complete a major extension to the existing accommodation block. Each room has an ensuite shower and toilet and is fitted with a fan and mosquito netting on the window and over the bed. We hope to finish a further luxury accommodation block and a dining hall in the next few months - and that should complete the major developments - at least for the time being!

The swimming pool
The new swimming pool was officially opened on the 31st December 1999. It is 8m wide and 20m long with an average depth of 1.5m, it has a modern purification and filtration system fitted which involves electrolytic creation of chlorine from salt added in small amounts to the pool. This system avoids the aggrevating red eyes caused by the addition of sodium hypochlorite. The average temperature is about 28°.

Forest Walks
This is a picture of our forest guide, Lawrence, at the edge of the rice paddy fields that are crossed on the way to the forest by the hotel. He comes from a small village on the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro and he has developed a great interest in the flora and fauna of the area and in particular he has spent a lot of time observing and following the monkey troops in the forest. If you have some spare time in the hotel we recommend a morning or evening guided walk with him to see the many troops of different monkeys and the wide variety of birdlife. Although the service is provided free by the hotel a small tip is welcome.
